World Wide Web (WWW)

The World Wide Web is also called Web. It provides the facility to publish information on the internet. It is a collection of documents or web pages stored on computers permanently connected with the internet around the world. These web pages are connected to one another using hyperlinks. Anyone can view these web pages through a web browser.

A collection of related web pages is called website. Each website has a unique address. The address of a website is called a URL. It stands for Universal Resource Locator. The following is an example of www.

Uses of WWW

The uses of WWW m as follows:

1. Advertisement: Manufacturers use WWW to provide information about their products.
2. Shopping: It is possible for a user to buy an item using WWW. You can see products and even order them by using your credit card etc.
3. Fight Information: It is used to provide the latest information on flight arrivals and departures.
4. Television Station: WWW is used to provide information about the programs, Latest news, and special events. Sane television show different events live on their websites.
5.  Celebrities, Sportsman, and Film Actors: Important celebrities can contact their fans, provide information about them, and sent their pictures.
6. Government Authorities: Government authorities can provide information about service and facilities for the people.
7. News: Most newspapers have their website. The latest news and interviews provide on these websites.
8. Encyclopedia Publisher: Online encyclopedias are available. You can find detailed information on any topic in the world.
9. Search Engines: The search engine is a website that provides the facility to find the required websites on a particular topic. You can find thousands of websites about any topic.
10. Medical: Many sites in the world provide detailed information on diseases. You can also consult a panel of or line doctors to get advice about any medical problem.

 

Email

Email stands for Electronic Mail Email is the exchange of text, messages, and files through the Internet. Message can be in the form of graphics, sounds, video clips, or simple text. It is a fast way of delivering messages anywhere in the world in a very short time.

 

Working of Email

An email program is used to create, send, and receive emails. It is also known as an email client. When the user sends an email message, the computer connects to an email server and - transmits a copy of the message to that server. The email server is a host computer on the Internet that is used to send and receive emails. The email server receives the message and finds out the email server where that email is to be sent. It connects to that server and transmits another copy of the message.

 

Email Attachment

An email message can also contain attachments. Attachment is a process of sending connecting files with email messages. Any type of file can be attached to email such as documents, spreadsheets, audio, and video, etc. MIME is an Internet protocol that supports email attachments. It stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension. Different websites provide different file sizes that can be attached to an email message. Yahoo provides the attachment size of 10MB.

 

Advantages and Uses of Email

1. It is very fast and timely.
2. It is very cheap and inexpensive.
3. You can send and receive messages anywhere in the world.
4. You can share your information with different people.
5. It is possible to send and receive emails through mobile phones.
6. Email gives us the facility to send pictures, sounds, and videos.

 

Disadvantages of Email

Some disadvantages of email are as follows:

1. Email can be hacked and the hacker can read confidential information send in the email.
2. Email is read when the user connects with the Internet and checks the email account. An urgent message may be ignored or delayed if a person does not check his mail account soon.
3. Sometimes, email is not delivered successfully due to communication errors.

 

Email Address

Every email account has a unique address. An email address usually has two parts:

1. User ID
2. Identity of email service

These two parts are separated by the symbol @ e.g myemail@hotmail.com. In this example, my email is called user ID. It is used to sign into email service. The symbol @ is called "at" sign. It separates the account ID from the name of the e-mail service provider. hotmail.com indicates the email service provider.

 

Email Discussion Groups

People can communicate over the Internet using email facility. Different people discuss different topics and distribute their ideas to other people by email. Software’s are available to administrate email discussion groups. The most common program is the listserv.

A variety of topics are covered by listserv. Many of them are academic. When you subscribe to a listserv, messages from other subscribers are automatically sent to your mailbox. You subscribe to a listserv by sending an email message to a computer program called a list server. List servers are located on computer networks throughout the world. This program handles subscription information and distributes messages to subscribers. News Groups

A newsgroup is a global electronic bulletin board system. People exchange Maturation on a vast range of topics such as news, recreation, business, science, and computer. To participate in the discussion, a user sends a message to the newsgroup. Other users in the newsgroup read and reply to the message. Some newsgroups require you to enter your user name and password to participate in the discussion.

The major difference between Newsgroup and e-mail discussion groups is that newsgroup messages are stored on central computers. The users must connect to these computers to read or download the messages posted to these groups. In the email discussion forum, mafia arrives in the mailboxes of each list member.
